CONTOH NARRATIVE TEXT LEGEND

1. The Legend of Rawa Pening

Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into a little village. He was very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food, but nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the little boy. Finally, a generous old woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal.
 

When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a lesung, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, if there is a flood you must save yourself by using lesung as a boat. The little boy was happy and thanked to the old woman.

The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. Can I try?; asked the little boy. The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and meal. As she told him, he used the lesung; as a boat and picked up the old woman.

The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

Legenda Rawa Pening

Pada jaman dahulu, ada seorang bocah miskin datang ke sebuah desa kecil. Dia sangat lapar dan lemah. Dia mengetuk setiap pintu rumah untuk meminta beberapa makanan, namun tidak ada yang perduli. Tak ada seorangpun yang mau menolong bocah kecil itu. Akhirnya, ada seorang wanita tua yang baik hati menolongnya. Dia memberi makanan dan tempat tinggal untuknya.

Ketika anak itu ingin pergi, wanita tua itu memberi sebuah lesung, yaitu sebuah mortir kayu besar penumbuk padi. Dia mengingatkan, jika terjadi banjir, kamu harus menyelamatkan diri dengan lesung itu sebagai perahu. Anak kecil itu senang dan berterima kasih kepada wanita tua tersebut.

Anak kecil tersebut kembali melanjutkan perjalanannya. Ketika ia sedang melewati desa, dia melihat banyak orang sedang berkumpul di lapangan. Anak itu berjalan mendekat dan melihat sebuah batang kayu menancap di tanah. Orang-orang tersebut saling menantang untuk menarik batang kayu tersebut. Setiap orang mencoba, namun tidak ada yang sanggup. Bisakah saya mencobanya?; ucap si anak kecil itu. Para kerumunan orang tersebut tertawa mengejek. Anak itu mencoba peruntungannya kemudian maju kedepan dan menarik tongkat kayu tersebut. Dia bisa melakukannya dengan sangat mudah. Semua orang tercengang.

Tiba-tiba, dari lubang tongkat kayu tadi, air menyembur keluar. Semburan itu tidak bisa berhenti sehingga menyebabkab banjir di desa itu. Dan tak ada seorangpun yang selamat kecuali anak kecil itu dan wanita tua yang murah hati yang memberinya makan dan tempat tinggal. Seperti yang pernah wanita tua katakan, dia menggunakan lesung sebagai perahu dan membawanya.

Seluruh desa berubah menjadi danau yang besar. Sekarang ini dikenal dengan nama Danau Rawa Pening yang tempatnya di Salatiga, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia.

2. ThenLegend of Roro Jonggrang

Once upon a time, there was a powerful prince named Bandung Bondowoso. In a war, Bandung Bondowoso killed Prabu Baka. Then, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love with Prabu Baka’s daughter. Her name was Roro Jonggrang.

Bondowoso wanted to marry this beautiful princess. However, the princess hated him because he had killed her father. Roro Jonggrang was thinking of a way to refuse the marriage proposal. Finally, she decided to marry Bandung Bondowoso if he could build a thousand temples before the dawn.

Being helped by the genies, Bondowoso built the temples very fast. Roro Jonggrang wanted to fail him. She asked all women in the village to hit the rice. The rooster crowed signing that morning was coming. All genies left the project until 999 temples because they tought morning came afterward.

Finally, Bondowoso knew that Roro Jonggrang tricked him. He was very angry so he cursed Roro Jonggrang into a rock statue “Arca”. Roro Jonggrang statue is inside Candi Prambanan to complete the project of a thousand temples.

Legenda Roro Jonggrang

Pada jaman dahulu, ada seorang pengeran yang berkuasa bernama Bandung Bodowoso. Pada sebuah peperangan, Bandung Bondowoso berhasil membunuh Prabu Baka. Kemudian, Bandung Bondowoso jatuh hati pada anak perempuan Prabu Baka. Namanya adalah Roro Jonggrang.

Bondowoso ingin menikahi putri cantik ini. Namun, putri benci padanya karena telah membunuh ayahnya. Roro Jonggrang sedang berpikir bagaimana cara untuk menolak permintaan menikah. Akhirnya, dia memutuskan untuk menikah dengan Bandung Bondowoso jika dia mampu membangun seribu candi sebelum pagi tiba.

Dengan dibantu para jin, Bondowoso membangun candi dengan sangat cepat. Roro Jonggrang berencana untuk menggagalkannya. Dia meminta seluruh perempuan yang ada di desa menumbuk padi. Para ayam jago berkokok menandakan bahwa pagi telah tiba. Semua jin meninggalkan pekerjaan tersebut sampai 999 candi karena mereka berpikir pagi telah datang. 

Akhirnya, Bondowoso tahu bahwa Roro Jonggrang menipunya. Dia sangat marah sehingga mengutuk Roro Jonggrang menjadi sebuah patung batu "Arca". Patung Roro Jonggrang berada di dalam Candi Prambanan guna melengkapi pembuatan dari 1000 candi.

3. The Legend of Danau Toba

In one village of North Sumatera, there lived a poor farmer named Toba. One day, he went fishing. Luckily, he got a beautiful goldfish. He carried it home and planned to cook it. When he got home, the fish turned into a beautiful woman.

The woman told that she was cursed. She asked Toba to keep it as a secret. Toba agreed it only with one condition that the woman would marry him. Then they got married and soon had one child named Samosir. This boy liked to eat much food.

One day, his mother asked Samosir to bring lunch to his father. On the way to the ricefield, he stopped and ate most of the food. After that, he gave the rest of the lunch to his father. Toba was very angry and shouted at Samosir “You, the fish kid, you are so greedy!” Samosir cried and ran toward his mother. He asked his mother why his father called him the fish kid.

The woman was really upset that Toba broke his promise. The woman and his son disappeared. Soon there were springs that caused a vast lake. It’s called Toba Lake. The land in the middle of the lake is called Samosir Island.


4. The Legend of Sangkuriang

In ancient times, there was a girl named Dayang Sumbi who lived in West Java. She was also a clever dan smart girl. The prince of heavenly kingdom of Kahyangan fell in love with her beauty and intelligence. He wanted to make Dayang Sumbi as his wife. Prince came to his father and asked for his permission to marry Sumbi. There was a rule that people from Kahyangan could never live along the human. But, his father gave prince a permission with one one condition. When they had a child, the prince had to transfrom into a dog. The prince accepted his father’s condition.

One day, the prince and Sumbi got married and lived happily in the jungle. Then, Sumbi gave birth to a son. So, the prince kept his promise to change into a dog named Tumang. Their son named was Sangkuriang. He was very handsome like the prince. Every day, he went to hunt animals in the jungle. One day, when Sangkuriang was hunting for the animals, he unintentionally killed Tumang. He missed his shot and the arrow hit Tumang. Then, he went to home and told his mother about the dog.


“What did you do?” She was so angry and took a cooking tool. She hit Sangkuriang’s head with it. She was so sad and cried a lot.

Looking his mother cried, Sangkuriang felt sorry to her. However, he was confused. He tought his mother loved a dog more than him. Then, he dicided to leave his mother for a journey. In the morning, Sumbi felt better and stopped crying. She went to the jungle to find Sangkuriang. However, she could not find him. She was exhausted and decided to go to house. In her dream, she met her husband.

“My love, don’t be sad. take my heart from my body. Then, soak it with the water, use the water to bath. You will look young forever.” said her husband. She followed the prince’s order. So, she looked more beutiful and younger.

After many years, Sangkuriang stopped in a village when he was on a journey. In the village, he met a beautiful girl and fell in love with her. He wanted to marry the girl he loved. He didn’t notice that the village was his homeland. Even, the beautiful girl he loved was his own mother, Dayang Sumbi. One day, Sangkuriang asked Sumbi to fix his turban on his head. Sumbi was so shocked when she find the scar on Sangkuriang’s head. A scar was at the same place where she hit Sangkuriang’s head in years ago.

Then, Sumbi asked a guidance from the God. After praying, she was sure that the young man was Sangkuriang. She decided to prevent Sangkuriang for marrying her. However, she didn’t want to hurt him bya cancelling the wedding. So, she had a condition for Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang had to make a lake and a beautiful boat in one night.

Sangkuriang took her challenge without a doubt because he had mastered some strong magics. After the sun set, he went to the hill. He called many genies to help him. He commanded the genies to build a lake. He also gave an order to genies to make a big boat from the trees. In short time, Sangkuriang and his genies almost finished their work.

Dayang Sumbi realized that Sangkuriang would finish her order. She immediately asked all the women in the village. She asked them to make a wave from a long red scarf. It looked as if the sun would rise immediately. This condition made the roosters crowing. The farmer also prepared to go to paddy field.

The genies immediately stopped their work and left Sangkuriang alone. Sangkuriang was so angry because he could not finish his work. He was failed to marry Sumbi. He kicked the unfinished boat with all of his power . It flew and landed on a valley. After landed, the boat turned into a mountain which is called mount Tangkuban Perahu until now. He also kicked the lake. The water drained from the lake and becoming a wide plain area. The area became a city which is called Bandung.

RECYCLING

Much of what we throw away could be used again. Recycling puts "garbage" to good use. Recycling helps preserve precious resources because it saves on the use of raw materials and energy. It also reduces the pollution
caused when the waste is dumped.

Glass can be remelted. This is better than making fresh glass from raw materials, but it is even better to reuse the bottle whole. THE IMPORTANCE OF RAIN FORESTS

Rain forests are one of the most complicated environments on Earth. They are recognised worldwide as containing the richest source of plants and animals and are believed to contain nearly three-quarters of all the varieties of life on Earth. This is remarkable because rain forests cover only about six per cent of the Earth's land surface.


Rain forest are the oldest major ecosystem, having survived climate changes for more than one million years. They provide habitats for more species of plants, animals, insects and birds than any other environment found on our planet. Scientists estimate that between 60 and 90 per cent of all species of life are to be found in rain forests. Unfortunately, the widespread destruction of many of the world's rain forests has caused a significant decline in the number of plant and animal species on Earth.

Rain forests influence both our local and global climates. For example, between 50 and 80 per cent of the moisture in the air above rain forests comes from the rain forest's trees. If large areas of these lush rain forests are cleared, the average rainfall in the area will drop. Eventually, the area's climate will get hotter and drier. This process could convert rain forests into a sparse grassland or desert.

Rain forests are also able to absorb over 90 per cent of the rainfall in their leaves and mosses. By doing this, they are able to slow down water run-off by
gradually releasing the water over time into streams and rivers. This helps to control soil erosion and flooding.

Rain forests are vital to the Earth in helping to recycle carbon and oxygen. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the gas put into the air globally by humans, mainly by the burning of fossil fuels (for example in cars and factories). Rain forests are able to remove carbon dioxide from the air and return oxygen in its place. This
is why our global rain forests are often
called the Earth's ‘lungs'.

Rain forests are major producers of the Earth's oxygen. In fact, scientists believe that nearly 50 per cent of the Earth's oxygen is produced by rain forest in the Amazon region alone. Nearly 40 per cent of the world's carbon is contained in the trees of the rain forests. As rain forests are cut down and burned, carbon dioxide is released into the Earth's atmosphere. Eventually, as this gas builds up the atmosphere, leading to what scientists call the enhanced greenhouse effect.

To sum up, the role of the rain forest is essential for human life. It creates equilibrium in our environment and its resources are significant for human beings survival.

ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER : A PROBLEM FOR INDONESIA

Access to clean water is one of Indonesia's biggest problem. According to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Report 2007, published by the National
Development Planning Board, piped water is accessible to 30.8 per cent of households in the country's cities and 9 per cent in its villages. Such figures show the limitations of the municipality's water service provider, PDAM.


Lack of investment in clean water is one reason PDAM gives for its limited outreach. Based on a government statement, to meet the MDGs target by 2015, Indonesia needs Rp43 trillion (US$4.6 billion) in clean water funding. The government currently provides Rp500 billion.

In order to close the funding gap, the government expects private investment in drinking water infrastructure.

The need for clean water funding is something that cannot be covered by private investment. In Indonesia, most PDAM utilities have small scales of economy and are therefore unattractive to investors.

There is no evidence to suggest private investors will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of water services, whereas the government has a duty to do so.

Increasing public funding for clean water infrastructure is the most rational approach for Indonesia. This effort should begin with an analysis of the needs of locals. This should be done through a democratic and participatory process.

There are resources and mechanisms the government could employ to increase clean water funding, such as state and local budgets, grants, government bonds and community-public partnership. (Taken from The Jakarta Post, April 5, 2008)

A. DEFINITION

Hortatory exposition is a type of spoken or written text that is intended to explain the listeners or readers that something should or should not happen or be done. (Hortatory Exposition adalah jenis teks lisan atau tulisan yang dimaksudkan untuk menjelaskan pendengar atau pembaca bahwa sesuatu seharusnya atau tidak boleh terjadi atau dilakukan).

"Bullying: A Cancer That Must Be Eradicated"

Thesis

A tragic end to an education that had barely begun 13-year-old Kiki stopped schooling because her classmates used to make fun of her relentlessly. They had accidentally discovered her humble background, her father being a street vendor. In another case, 15 year old Dinda could not take it anymore. She became depressed, left school and stayed at home because she was constantly teased by her classmates for failing in junior high school.

And in yet another, more recent case, some senior students of a junior high school took seven junior students, and subjected them to violent beatings. Sherry, one of the junior students, was rushed to hospital with bruises on his abdomen. He is extremely scared to go to school. Julie, a 10 year old, fifth grade student, states that her first two years of elementary school were a traumatic experience. She sadly remembers being cruelly bullied by her male classmates because she was overweight. They used to call her Sumatran elephant, baboon, gentong and many other names.

Argument (1-6)

These are few cases out of hundreds of similar cases and the number is increasing over the time. In Indonesia bullying exists in every form, from teasing to extreme abuse. Even though incidents of bullying are common, unfortunately it is not seen as a major problem. A recent survey conducted by National Child Protection Commission has shown that more than half of bullying incidents go unreported due to the fact that it is considered normal in some parts of the society. Also the people who get bullied are either unwilling to report it because they feel it will “make a big deal”. Or worse, they are so scared that they don't trust anyone and do not want to share their plight with anyone. The issue of bullying has been a problem for years but recently it got limelight from news media when few cases were reported.

Bullying affects the children both psychologically and physically. It is estimated that hundreds of children miss school every day due to the fear of being mistreated by other students and in some extreme cases they choose to home school, or in severe circumstances they stop studying altogether.

Children should not be living in constant fear. They shouldn't be afraid. On the contrary, they should look forward to every day of school and enjoy school life.
According to a research bullying has always existed in Indonesian society, but it has come to surface due to the recent proliferation of media technologies (Craig, 2009). Since bullying is prevalent in our society it is important that everyone should be made aware of this social evil. There should be campaigns to increase awareness. Everyone should be working together, against it, to stop it. It is distressing to see our children being isolated from society because they are treated badly. I am of opinion that no one has any right to harass or make people feel inferior. No one should have that kind of power. These children are our future and we should make every possible effort to stop bullying.


I would like to point out that bullying is everyone's problem and responsibility. If you condone bullying in any way, shape or form it means you are taking part in it whether it is directly or indirectly by being silent. Majority of people agree that we have to work together towards eliminating this problem.

Some people may consider taunting someone as funny, even though it is anything but funny to the person who is at the receiving end. Minor taunts can
create a lot of pain and suffering. While it may seem innocent but the cumulative effect could be highly damaging. In addition to that, as the pain increases, each instance cuts a little deeper which eventually becomes a sore.


It is highly possible that bullying might happen in your school so it is the liability of every student to protect their classmates and try to stop bullying. CINDERELLA (ENGLISH)

One upon a time there lived a beautiful girl kindhearted. The girl named Cinderella. Her kindness made everyone love her even animals, especially Gus and Jaq. They would do anything for Cinderella. Cinderella lived with stepmother and two stepsisters named Anastasia and Drizella. Anastasia and Drizella were very lazy and jealous. They told Cinderella do all the jobs crate cleaning, sewing, cooking and gardening. Although both stepsisters treated Cinderella very bad, she tried to do the best and making stepmother and two stepsisters happy.

Mrs. Tremaine was Cinderella's stepmother. She was cold, cruel and very jealous with the charm and beauty of Cinderella. Mrs Tremaine was happy to make Cinderella busy with all the work. She gave additional duties to Cinderella bathing her naughty cat, namely Lucifer.

One day, an envoy from the palace arrived by special invitation. There would be a big party at the palace. The king wanted his son immediately look for a wife. Every young girl in the kingdom were invited, including Cinderella. Cinderella was very excited with the party invitations. In the attic, she found a dress which had belonged to her mother. The dress was a bit old-fashioned, but with her intelligence, Cinderella made it into a beautiful gown.

Mrs Tremaine did not want Cinderella to go to the party that will be held in the palace. She wanted the Prince to meet Anastasia and Drizella and would marry one of her two daughters. Mrs Tremaine gave Cinderella a job very much. She would make Cinderella busy all night, so that Cinderella did not have a chance to come to a big party at the royal palace.

While Cinderella was working to complete the task of her stepmother, mice and birds helping make dresses Cinderella be wonderful. They added ribbons and beads that had been discarded by both Cinderella's stepsisters. The animals worked together to create a simple old-fashioned dress into a beautiful and remarkable. Cinderella was very happy to see her mother's dress. The dress was very beautiful and richly in her body so that she could go to a party with confidence.

"Oh, thank you so much!" said Cinderella to all her friends (Gus, Jaq, and the birds).

When Cinderella's stepsisters saw ribbons and beads on Cinderella's dress, they became angry. They were jealous of the beautiful Cinderella dress and glittering. They asked for it back. They ripped Cinderella's dress to remove the beads and ribbons. Mrs. Tremaine did not stop them. She was jealous because Cinderella looked very pretty and charming using the old dress. Cinderella's dream to go to the party vanished because it was enough time for her to go to the palace.

Time passed, the clock is approaching midnight. "Goodbye!" Cinderella said and then hurried away.

"Wait!" said the Prince. "I do not even know your name!"

Cinderella ran in a hurry. She was worried about the dimension of a fairy godmother vanished when was still in the party. When running one of her glass slippers behind. Both Cinderella and Prince could not forget what happened on that night. They both missed each other.

Prince sent a messenger to find a girl who fitted the glass slipper. The envoy came to each house to ask all the girls try the glass slipper. Both Cinderella's stepsisters tried the glass slipper. They were both too big leg but continued to force entry. Mrs. Tremaine locked Cinderella in the attic, but Cinderella's mice friends (Gus and Jaq) helped to remove it. At the time Cinderella tried the glass slipper brought by palace messenger , Lady Tremaine tripped so that the glass slipper destroyed but Cinderella had the other in her pocket. And it fitted!

Dia ingin membuat Cinderella sibuk sepanjang malam, sehingga Cinderella tidak memiliki kesempatan untuk datang ke sebuah pesta besar di istana kerajaan.

Disaat Cinderella sedang bekerja untuk menyelesaikan tugas dari ibu tirinya, sahabatnya tikus dan burung-burung membantu membuatkan gaun untuk Cinderella menjadi indah. Mereka menambahkan pita dan manik-manik yang telah dibuang oleh kedua saudara tirinya Cinderella. Para hewan bekerja sama untuk menciptakan pakaian yang kuno dan sederhana itu menjadi indah dan luar biasa. Cinderella sangat senang melihat baju ibunya. Gaun itu sangat indah dan elegan di tubuhnya sehingga ia bisa pergi ke pesta dengan percaya diri.

"Oh terimakasih banyak!" kata Cinderella kepada semua teman-temannya (Gus, Jaq, dan burung-burung).

Ketika kedua saudara tiri Cinderella melihat pita dan manik-manik di gaun Cinderella, mereka menjadi marah. Mereka cemburu dengan gaun Cinderella yang indah dan berkilauan. Mereka meminta kembali pita dan manik-manik itu. Mereka merobek gaun Cinderella untuk melepas manik-manik dan pita. Ibu Tremaine tidak menghentikan mereka. Dia cemburu karena Cinderella tampak sangat cantik dan menawan dengan menggunakan dress lamanya. Mimpi Cinderella untuk pergi ke pesta lenyap sudah karena tidak cukup waktu baginya untuk pergi ke istana.

Cinderella berlari ke kebun dan menangis. Pada saat itu tiba-tiba, datanglah ibu peri. Dengan tongkat ajaib, dia berubah labu menjadi kereta yang indah. Masih ada satu masalah yakni gaun Cinderella yang telah rusak dan tidak dapat digunakan.

"Bibbidi-Bobbidi-boo!" kata ibu peri melambaikan tongkatnya kembali.

Ajaibnya, Cinderella mengenakan gaun yang indah dan sandal kaca berkilau. Tapi Ibu peri memperingatkan bahwa pada saat jam berdentang 12:00 malam, mantra sihir itu akan lenyap.

Ketika di pesta itu, pangeran tampan tidak bisa melepaskan pandangan matanya dari Cinderella yang tampak luar biasa indah dan menawan. Tidak menyia-nyiakan kesempatan, ia segera megajakl Cinderella untuk menari. Orkestra dimainkan, dan sang pangeran mulai menari dengan seorang gadis cantik yang namanya tidak ia tahu. Dan untuk Cinderella, malam itu adalah mimpi yang menjadi kenyataan. Waktu berlalu, jam mendekati tengah malam. "Selamat tinggal!" kata Cinderella dan kemudian ia bergegas pergi.

"Tunggu!" kata Pangeran. "Aku bahkan tidak tahu nama kamu!"

Cinderella berlari terburu-buru. Dia khawatir sihir dari ibu peri menghilang ketika masih dalam pesta. Ketika berlari, salah satu sandal kacanya tertinggal. Cinderella dan Pangeran tidak bisa melupakan apa yang telah terjadi pada malam itu. Mereka berdua merindukan satu sama lain.

Pangeran mengirim utusan untuk menemukan seorang gadis yang kakinya cocok dengan sepatu kaca itu. Utusan itu datang ke setiap rumah warga untuk meminta semua gadis mencoba sepatu kaca itu. Kedua saudara tiri Cinderella mencoba sepatu kaca itu. Kaki mereka berdua terlalu besar tapi terus dipaksa untuk masuk. Ibu Tremaine mengunci Cinderella di loteng, tapi teman-teman tikus Cinderella (Gus dan Jaq) membantu untuk melepaskannya. Pada saat Cinderella sedang mencoba sepatu kaca yang dibawa oleh utusan dari istana, Ibu Tremaine tersandung kakinya sehingga sepatu kacanya menjadi hancur, namun Cinderella masih memiliki sepatu lainnya di saku. Dan itu cocok di kakinya.

Cinderella dan Pangeran akhirnya menikah. Semua orang bersukacita, termasuk teman-teman tikus Cinderella yaitu Gus dan Jaq, dengan mengenakan pakaian khusus untuk pernikahan. Dipenuhi dengan sukacita, Cinderella dan Pangeran hidup bahagia selamanya.

The  workmen  who  were  building  the  new hospital  in my  town  caught  a snake  last month. It was  in the drain near  the building construction site. Early in the morning, a workman was just going to sit under the tree when suddenly he saw a long creature lying in the drain. It did not move when he was approaching  it. Then he shouted  to  the other workmen who were going to start  to work. Then, they caught the 8 – meter long python and brought it to the authority of the zoo in this town. The diameter of its body was about 25 centimeters. They believed that the snake might belong to someone living in the area. The police were trying to find the owner.

REPORT TEXT


Teks report adalah teks yang mendeskripsikan sesuatu atau benda-benda secara umum, misalnya berbagai benda atau fenomena alam, buatan, dan sosial yang ada atau terjadi di lingkungan kita. Setelah membaca teks report diharapkan kita bisa memahami baik gagasan pokok [ main idea ] setiap paragraf maupun secara keseluruhan. Gagasan pokok [ main idea ] adalah keterangan, penjelasan, uraian atau pendapat penulis tentang topik. Untuk mengetahui gagasan pokok [ main idea ] sebuah paragraf, hal yang perlu diperhatikan adalah yang pertama pahami keseluruhan isi teks/ paragraf karena gagasan utama dapat berada di awal, tengah, maupun akhir paragraf. Yang kedua kelompokkan kalimat/ paragraf menjadi gagasan utama dan gagasan pendukung.

NARRATIVE TEXT

Teks Narrative adalah teks yang menceriterakan sesuatu yang imajinatif atau khayalan belaka. Tujuan dari teks tersebut untuk menghibur para pembaca. Dalam menceriterakan kejadian-kejadian yang ada dalam cerita Naratif kita menggunakan The Simple Past Tense. Teks Narrative biasanya diawali dengan adverbs of time seperti : long time ago, once upon a time, one day, long ago, dll. Setelah selesai membaca teks Narrative diharapkan para pembaca dapat memetik nilai moral yang ada dalam cerita tersebut. Untuk mengetahui nilai moral sebuah cerita dapat dilakukan dengan cara pahami dulu paragraf dari akhir sebuah cerita karena terkadang nilai moral sebuah cerita tersurat di bagian akhir bacaan. Apabila nilai moral tidak tersurat dalam teks, pahami alur ceritanya, apa yang dilakukan oleh tokoh utama untuk menyelesaikan masalahnya serta hasil akhir yang diperoleh.

Struktur teks Narrative

  1. Orientation [ pendahuluan]: memperkenalkan tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita, latar, dan waktu.
  2. Complication : munculnya permasalahan diantara tokoh-tokoh tersebut.
  3. Resolution : Masalah dapat diatasi.
  4. Re-orientation : [ optional ]

Ciri-ciri teks Narrative
 
  1. Menggunakan past tenses,
  2. Biasanya dimulai dengan adverbs of time [ kata keterangan waktu] seperti long time ago, once upon a time, in faraway land,
  3. Menggunakan kata hubung [ conjunction ], seperti then, after that, before.

"Babu and the Lion"

One day, there was a slave whose name was Babu. His master was very, very, bad. You know, he often punched Babu and did not offer him food for days. Poor Babu ! So he escaped into a forest and slept in a cave.

Next morning, he heard a load roar. In front of him...., at the mouth of the cave ..., was a very big lion. You see, Babu was scared to death! kind of scary , isn't it? But he could not escape.

But the lion didn't attack him. it was time. There was a large thorn in its right front foot. The lion looked at Babu. It seemed to say something like : " Please help me. It's very painful. "Babu walked bravely to the lion turned out to be friends.


"Snow White"

Long ago, in the Neverland, there lived a very beautiful princess, Snow White. The Queen was her step mother. She was very jealous of her beauty. So she wanted her to die. 

Snow White knew about the evil plan. She escaped into a forest. There she made friends with seven dwarfs.

The queen turned Snow White into a witch. Snow White did not realize it. The witch gave her a poisoned apple. As a result, Snow White was put into sleep for years.

Fortunately, in the end, Prince charming revived her with a kiss. They lived happily ever after.



"Neverland"
 
Once upon a time there was a beautiful place called Neverland where Peter Pan and Tinker Bell lived. Not so far from this place is the city of London where John, Wendy and Michael Darling lived. They really loved the story of Peter. One day Peter Pan appeared and asked the children to fly to Neverland. They were excited to see the scenery and beauty of Neverland. Then, they were surprised to know the existence of a cruel pirate called Captain Hook. One day Captain Hook captured Tinker Bell and forced her to show Peter Pan's place. In doing so all Peter's friends, the Darlings were captured and taken to the pirate ship. Captain Hook frightened the children by putting them on the plank.

Suddenly, Peter Pan appeared and stopped everything.In a fierce duel, he threw Hook and all the pirates overboard. Hook was chased away by the crocodile, and nobody cared to save him.
The Darlings were so happy and thankful to Peter Pan. They told Peter their intention to go home. With the sprinkle of Tinker bell's Pixie Dust, Captain Hook's pirate ship was sailing through the skies of Neverland, heading back to the Darling's home in London.
